Nine Killed, 20 Injured in Car Blast Near Red Fort; High Alert in Delhi
New Delhi, November 10: Nine people were killed and 20 others injured after a blast occurred in a car near Red Fort on Monday evening, officials confirmed.
According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the explosion took place in a Hyundai i20 car at around 6:52 p.m. near the Red Fort Metro Station. The impact left several vehicles damaged and bodies scattered in the area.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said, “The blast took place in a slow-moving vehicle that came to a halt at the Red Fort traffic signal. There were occupants in the car. The blast damaged cars nearby.”
A high alert has been sounded across the capital. Twenty fire engines were deployed to the site, and police cordoned off the area as rescue operations were carried out. The anti-terror squad and Delhi Police Special Cell are investigating the scene.
Visuals from the location showed flames and thick smoke rising from the burning cars, causing panic among bystanders.
The explosion comes hours after Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives from two residential buildings in Faridabad, Haryana. The materials, including 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, were seized following information provided by an arrested J&K-based doctor, Adil Rather.
Authorities are probing any possible connection between the two incidents.
