The Department of Community Medicine, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, today organized an Awareness Rally on “One Health” as part of a national initiative by the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine (IAPSM) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). The event was held under the theme “One World, One Health – United for Human, Animal and Environmental Well-being.”

The rally was flagged off by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal, in the presence of Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, and Dr. Shantibala K., Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, RIMS.

Participants, including students, faculty members, and staff, began the rally from the Department of Community Medicine and moved along the route covering RIMS Road – MMS Gas – Sanakeithel – Lamphel CRPF – Lamphel Police Station – Lamphel Traffic Island – and back to RIMS. The rally aimed to raise awareness about the “One Health” concept, which recognizes the vital interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health.

Speaking at the event, Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma highlighted the observance of International One Health Day with faculty, staff, and students from the Departments of Forensic and Community Medicine. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in maintaining a healthy environment and stressed RIMS’s initiatives toward making the campus plastic-free.

He urged students to avoid plastic use, maintain campus cleanliness, and report stagnant water to prevent vector-borne diseases. Prof. Sharma also announced the launch of two WhatsApp complaint numbers introduced on November 1 for civil and electrical issues, allowing for quick grievance redressal through geo-tagged photo submissions.

The rally concluded with a reaffirmation of RIMS Imphal’s commitment to promoting community health and fostering multidisciplinary initiatives that contribute to human and environmental well-being.
