Students of Manipur Technical University Stage Protest, Demand Appointment of Regular Vice Chancellor
Students of the Manipur Technical University today staged a peaceful protest demanding the immediate appointment of a regular Vice Chancellor, stating that the institution has been functioning without one for nearly two years and eleven months.
In their statement, the students expressed dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay, noting that the Hon’ble Governor had earlier cited an ongoing court case as the reason. However, the students clarified that the case has already been disposed of and that no legal issues remain to hinder the appointment process.
They recalled submitting a memorandum to the authorities seeking a prompt appointment, but said no action has been taken so far. The students alleged that the continued delay shows a lack of concern for their welfare.
“A university cannot grow under temporary arrangements,” the students said, warning that further delay may lead to intensified agitation from the MTU student community.
Gathering peacefully, the students urged the Hon’ble Governor to ensure that the importance of education is not neglected. They also issued a five-day ultimatum to the concerned authorities to appoint a regular Vice Chancellor without further delay.
