Tension in Sadu Lampak as Kuki Villagers Object to Meitei Farmer Ploughing Paddy Field; Security Forces Deployed
A tense situation unfolded this morning around 10 a.m. in Sadu Lampak village, located near a Kuki settlement, after a Meitei farmer from Leitanpokpi arrived with a tractor to plough a paddy field. The incident triggered a confrontation when some local Kuki villagers objected, claiming that the land did not belong to the farmer according to Manipur police.
Eyewitnesses reported that nearby Meitei residents also gathered at the site following the dispute, raising concerns over a possible escalation. Videos began circulating on social media soon after, with some alleging that Kuki villagers had come down to obstruct Meitei farmers from working on the land.
In response, security forces were immediately deployed to the scene. According to a statement from Manipur Police, “Security forces led by Addl SP Imphal East and other central forces are already at the spot and controlling the situation. Additional forces led by SP and others are also responding to the situation.”
The police further urged the public to remain calm and not to fall for unverified information. “Public are requested not to believe in rumours,” the statement added.
