Tripura Faces Unemployment Crisis: 3.35 Lakh Job-Seekers Registered, Report Reveals
Agartala, March 24, 2025 – A recent report by the Directorate of Employment Services & Manpower Planning has laid bare the stark unemployment challenges in Tripura, highlighting the struggles of job-seekers in the state. The data, released on Monday, provides a detailed look into the employment trends and educational qualifications of those seeking jobs through the National Career Service Portal.
According to the report, a total of 3,35,551 individuals are currently registered as unemployed on the portal. Among them, 82,136 belong to Scheduled Tribes (ST), underscoring the significant barriers faced by specific communities in accessing employment opportunities. The report also sheds light on the educational qualifications of the unemployed, noting that the pool includes 245 Ph.D. holders, 18,905 individuals with Master’s degrees, and 1,006 with Doctorate qualifications. These figures point to a growing demand for skilled employment opportunities in Tripura, as even highly educated individuals struggle to find suitable jobs.
Further compounding the issue, the report highlights the plight of overaged job-seekers, with 2,383 individuals having crossed the age limit for government jobs, limiting their prospects in the public sector.
Minister in-charge of the Employment Services and Manpower Planning Department, Tinku Roy, shared these findings in a written reply on the second day of the assembly’s budget session, drawing attention to the pressing need for targeted interventions to address the unemployment crisis in the state.
