Centre Meets SoO Groups, Discusses Opening of Highways, Surrender of Weapons, Relocation of Camps
At the meeting, the insurgent groups were informed about violations of the ground rules and were also asked to shut down or relocate camps situated close to Meitei-inhabited areas.
Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday discussed changes to the ground rules of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, the opening of national highways, the surrender of weapons, and the shutting down of camps, during a meeting with Kuki-Zo insurgent groups. This was the first such meeting held in two years.
The insurgent groups, which have been engaged in peace talks with the government since 2008, were notified of ground rule violations and urged to shut down or move camps located near Meitei-populated regions.
The MHA is currently reviewing the ground rules of the SoO agreement, and the next round of talks is expected next week to finalize the details for implementation.
Five members of the Kuki-Zo SoO groups participated in the talks with A.K. Mishra, Adviser (Northeast) to the MHA, along with officials from the Intelligence Bureau, on Monday, June 9, 2025.
