INBA Condemns FIR Against IPFM President Ashang Kasar, Calls It a Misuse of Legal Mechanism
Imphal, May 26, 2025 — The Imphal Naga Business Association (INBA) has issued a strong statement condemning the lodging of a First Information Report (FIR) against Mr. Ashang Kasar, the President of the Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur (IPFM). The FIR was reportedly filed by the Sangaikot Sub-Division Defence Committee (SSDDC), Churachandpur, under reference number 1/SSDDC/FIR(SNK-PS)/25 dated May 22, 2025.
INBA denounced the complaint—filed at the Sangaikot Police Station—as baseless and a blatant misuse of legal provisions, stating that it targets Mr. Kasar for his alleged “inflammatory comments.” The association described the FIR as an attempt to harass and silence a respected social activist who is known for his efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence and transparency in society.
“Mr. Ashang Kasar is a renowned social activist who selflessly works for the peaceful coexistence among the present society by finding out the various fact accounts in every sphere,” the statement read.
INBA urged the concerned authorities to immediately withdraw the FIR, emphasizing that due process, fairness, and the rule of law must be upheld. The organization also called upon the public to unite in defending the rights of those who speak out for justice and truth.
The condemnation was jointly signed by INBA President KR Annish and Secretary BT Bezaleel.
