MLAs Meet Governor Regarding Asem Kanan’s Arrest; Governor Denies Link to Arambai Tenggol
A delegation of 25 MLAs from the BJP, NPP, and Congress met the Governor of Manipur today to raise concerns over the arrest of Asem Kanan, a key figure associated with Arambai Tenggol. The leaders urged the Governor to intervene and secure his release, highlighting the delicate situation prevailing in the state.
Following the meeting, MLA Lokeswore clarified to the media that Asem Kanan had been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and that his detention was not connected to his role in Arambai Tenggol. The Governor also informed the delegation that out of the five individuals detained, Kanan was arrested by the CBI in connection with a specific case, while the remaining four were held by the state police.
MLA Khumukcham Ibomcha stated that the delegation pressed the Governor to provide a clear explanation regarding Kanan’s arrest and ensure his release at the earliest. He added that the four other Arambai Tenggol members detained alongside Kanan could be released soon, as there appears to be no case registered against them.
According to sources, Asem Kanan was flown to Delhi earlier this morning around 9:30 AM on Indigo flight 6A2008.
Meanwhile, the valley region remains tense, with widespread protests and road blockades continuing. Arambai Tenggol has announced a 10-day total shutdown, including the closure of all government offices, further escalating the unrest.
