AIMS Pays Tribute to Cultural Icon Thoiba Thokchom
Imphal, 8 December 2024 – The Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) has expressed profound grief over the sudden demise of Thoiba Thokchom, a revered figure in Manipuri culture, who passed away on 7 December 2024. Known for his unwavering dedication to preserving Manipur’s rich cultural heritage, Thoiba Thokchom’s contributions have left an indelible mark on the community.
AIMS highlighted Thokchom’s remarkable efforts in conserving traditional arts such as dance, music, and crafts, which inspired pride and dignity among the youth. His extensive travels across Myanmar, Bangladesh, Assam, and Tripura played a significant role in uniting the Manipuri diaspora. Additionally, his documentation of the ancient Puya manuscripts ensured the preservation of cultural and spiritual wisdom for future generations.
The organization also acknowledged his pivotal work in conserving the Manipur Pony and safeguarding Tangkhul Hui, underscoring his unparalleled commitment to the region’s heritage. “His legacy will forever serve as a guiding light for our efforts to carry forward the cultural torch of Manipur,” AIMS stated.
