Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Wednesday said that the prolonged conflict in the state had resulted in a decline of more than Rs. 1,200 crores in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue from 2023 to 2026, putting considerable pressure on the state’s economy. Speaking at the 52nd Foundation Day celebration of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), Singh sais the collateral impact of bandh and blockades had affected the state significantly in terms of economic activity and development, and appealed for collective efforts to create an environment conducive to economic recovery and development. He also appealed to all civil society organisations (CSOs) of the state not to resort to bandhs and blockades. "Prolonged conflict in the state had resulted in a decline of more than Rs. 1,200 crores in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue from 2023 to 2026, putting considerable pressure on the state’s economy" he added. On the welfare of journalists, Singh said that the journalist pension amount would be increased from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000 per month, while the family pension would be increased from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 7,000 per month. He further informed that during the conflict, many journalists could not make their contributions to the DIPR Journalist Pension Scheme. The Chief Minister stated that the above matters would be placed before the Cabinet meeting for consideration. Regarding pending advertisements, Singh informed that pending advertisement bills amounting to around Rs. 1 crore had been disbursed.

PROTEST ERUPTS IN LEISHANGPHAI AFTER KILLING OF TWO KUKI WOMEN Protests erupted at Leishangphai village on Tuesday following the reported killing of two Kuki women, Kimjalhing Singson, 28, and Phalneichong Sitlhou, 76. The two women were reportedly killed in the morning while working in their fields. Protesters alleged that suspected NSCN-IM cadres were responsible for the attack and questioned the failure of security arrangements in the area.
