COAS Gen Upendra Dwivedi Stresses Jointness and Integration Among Armed Forces Amid Evolving Warfare
Wellington, 26 March 2025 — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi underscored the pressing need for jointness, integration, and synergy among India’s armed forces in response to the rapidly evolving nature of warfare. Speaking at the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington, he addressed officers undergoing the 80th Staff Course and the permanent staff of the institution.
General Dwivedi praised DSSC for its critical role in shaping future military leaders and emphasized the importance of professional military education in strengthening decision-making capabilities and operational readiness. Highlighting leadership, adaptability, and technological integration as key pillars of modern warfare, he urged officers to embrace innovation and remain proactive in addressing emerging security threats.
During his visit, the COAS engaged with faculty members to discuss military strategy, operational art, and leadership development. He lauded DSSC’s efforts in fostering inter-service cooperation and enhancing India’s defence preparedness.
Commandant of DSSC, Lt Gen Virendra Vats, briefed the COAS on the evolution of the Staff Course curriculum, tailored to meet the demands of future wars. Special mention was made of the Deep Purple Division, where 40 tri-services officers underwent advanced training.
The visit concluded with Gen Dwivedi interacting with veterans of the Wellington Military Station, where he honoured their service by presenting the ‘Veteran Achievers Award’.
