Locals Stage Protest Against Bitumen Plant and Stone Crushers in Moidangpok
Imphal, March 26:
Residents of Moidangpok took to the streets on Tuesday, staging a sit-in protest to voice their strong opposition against the establishment of bitumen mixing plants, stone crushers, and brick fields in the area. The protesters raised concerns over severe health hazards and environmental degradation caused by these industrial units.
Carrying placards with slogans like “Clean air, clean water, our rights,” “No dust, no smoke, no noise,” and “Government wake up! Illegal activities under your nose,” the demonstrators called for immediate intervention from the authorities to halt the alleged unregulated and hazardous operations.
Locals highlighted the growing problems of air and water pollution, constant noise from heavy machinery, and rising health complaints believed to be linked to emissions and dust from the plants. They accused the government of turning a blind eye to the issue and demanded strict regulatory action against such activities.
