AIFUCTO Announces Nationwide Teachers’ Protest at Parliament on April 29
Patna, April 8, 2025:
The All India Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisations (AIFUCTO) has announced a massive protest demonstration to be held at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on April 29, 2025. This decision comes as a follow-up to the resolutions passed during its 33rd Academic Conference.
Thousands of university and college teachers from across India, along with various stakeholders from the education sector, are expected to participate. The protest aims to highlight growing dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) over unresolved concerns affecting the teaching community.
AIFUCTO’s key demands include:
- Dialogue on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
- Restoration of the Old Pension Scheme
- Clarity and reform on M.Phil & Ph.D. requirements
- Advance increments for in-service teachers
- Respectable working conditions for ad-hoc and self-financing college teachers
- Delinking Ph.D. requirement for promotion to Associate Professor
- Reconsideration of UGC’s Draft Regulation 2025
The organization has also raised concerns about recent financial amendments affecting pensioners and their categorization, warning of the damaging impact such changes could have on academic autonomy and constitutional federalism.
AIFUCTO has extended invitations to Members of Parliament and leaders of various political parties to show their solidarity. It has also appealed to the Ministry of Education to engage in dialogue and resolve the issues amicably, warning that failure to do so may lead to a larger national movement.
