Mayang Imphal Tension Eases: Police Hand Over Boys to Families, Peace Meeting Held

The recent tension in Mayang Imphal over allegations that three boys made slang comments during a Lai Lam Thokpa event saw significant de-escalation today. The three boys—two Pangal and one Meitei from Kiyamgei—who were rescued by police from an mob on June 20, were handed over to their family members after due verification.

To foster communal harmony and prevent the spread of misinformation, a joint peace meeting was convened at Mayang Imphal Police Station from 1 PM to 3 PM today. The meeting was attended by public leaders, civil society organisations (CSOs), and Meira Paibi leaders from both the Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities. SDPO Mayang Imphal and the Officer-in-Charge of Mayang Imphal Police Station presided over the discussions.

During the meeting, all stakeholders pledged to resolve any misunderstandings or future issues amicably and peacefully. They also collectively committed to dispelling rumours and false narratives that could disturb communal harmony.

The community leaders expressed their gratitude to the police for their swift and timely intervention during the tense situation and for ensuring the safety of the three individuals. The gathering emphasized the importance of mutual trust and cooperation with the District Police and urged everyone not to take the law into their own hands.
