Sangai First Foundation Holds Student Sensitization Programme at Toubul Government High School
As part of its year-long School Students Sensitization Programme on Sangai, the Sangai First Foundation (SFF), Manipur, organised a special awareness session today at Toubul Government High School, beginning at 10:45 a.m.
The event was graced by Shri Khumanthem Nishikanta, Headmaster of Toubul High School; Dr. Khangembam Shamungou, Managing Trustee of Sangai First Foundation; Shri Thoudam Rachandra, Retired Headmaster of Oinam High School; Shri Thoudam Jhalajit; and Shri Elangbam Premjit, Trustee of SFF, as members of the presidium.
In his welcome address, Shri Budha Khwairakpam, Secretary of SFF, highlighted the Foundation’s mission to educate students about the Sangai– Manipur’s state animal and the world’s only brow-antlered deer, found exclusively in the Keibul Lamjao Floating National Park, the only floating national park in the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Elangbam Premjit underscored the vital role of students in conserving the Sangai and protecting its delicate ecosystem. Dr. Khangembam Shamungou delivered an insightful talk on the socio-economic and cultural value of the Sangai, the consequences of habitat destruction, and the rich conservation legacy left by forebears. He also donated a set of his authored books to the school library to encourage learning and research among students.


A spot quiz competition was held as part of the programme, engaging 47 students, from which ten winners were selected. The winners will be felicitated during the 2nd Sangai Day Celebration scheduled for December 10, 2025, at Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirangkhunou.
In his closing remarks, Headmaster Shri Khumanthem Nishikanta expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Sangai First Foundation for including Toubul High School in this meaningful initiative.
The Foundation further announced a District Level Competition titled “Yarou Sangai 2025” to be held on November 9, 2025, at Bishnupur Higher Secondary School as a pre-event to the 2nd Sangai Day Observation.
The Sangai First Foundation, Manipur, has called for active cooperation from all stakeholders to ensure the successful conduct of the upcoming event dedicated to protecting Manipur’s ecological heritage.
