RIMS Hosts Panel Discussion on E-Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability

The Organizing Committee of the Swachhta Action Plan 2025–26 / Kayakalp of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, organized a panel discussion on the theme “E-Waste: The Hidden Threat to Our Environment” at the Old OPD Complex, RIMS Hospital, as part of the ongoing Special Campaign 5.0.

The discussion aimed to raise awareness about the growing hazards of electronic waste, promote sustainable waste management practices, and encourage responsible disposal within the RIMS campus and the broader community. The event aligns with the objectives of Special Campaign 5.0, which focuses on cleanliness, waste reduction, and public engagement in environmental protection.

The expert panel included Dr. Md. Habibullah Khan, Program Officer, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, Government of Manipur; Shri R.K. Naojinglen Meitei, Senior Technical Officer (Retd.), NIELIT Imphal; Shri Pradip Phanjoubam, Editor, IRAP; and Shri Rajesh Salam, Climate Journalist.

Panelists highlighted the severe environmental and health impacts caused by improper e-waste disposal and stressed the need for efficient recycling systems, eco-friendly alternatives, and awareness campaigns. They called for stronger institutional and public collaboration to reduce the ecological footprint of increasing electronic consumption.

The event was well attended by nursing officials, staff, students, and members of CRED Imphal and MSS, RIMS Imphal. The discussion concluded with a collective call for adopting sustainable practices and ensuring responsible e-waste management to safeguard the environment for future generations.
