Three-Day Clinical Trial Workshop Under DHR-ICMR Initiative Begins at RIMS Imphal
A three-day Clinical Trial Workshop under the DHR-ICMR Capacity Building Initiative for the MRU-MRHRU Scheme commenced today at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal. The programme is being organized by the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU), RIMS, in collaboration with INTENT (ICMR-CCoE), KEM Hospital Research Centre, Pune, and NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, with support from the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.
The inaugural function was attended by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, as Chief Guest; Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, as President; and Prof. L. Rajesh Singh, Dean (Academics), RIMS, as Guest of Honour.


Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sharma commended the MRU team for organizing the event and highlighted the growing research culture at RIMS. He expressed gratitude to ICMR-DHR, KEM Hospital Research Centre, and NEIGRIHMS for their partnership in advancing high-quality clinical research. He also emphasized the importance of such workshops in strengthening research capacity, fostering collaboration, and guiding young clinicians and researchers in conducting ethical and evidence-based studies.
A total of 34 participants, including doctors and researchers from RIMS, JNIMS, Arunachal Pradesh, and ICMR Dibrugarh (Assam), attended the first day of the workshop. Experts from KEMHRC, NEIGRIHMS, and ICMR conducted sessions in hybrid mode, covering the fundamentals of clinical research. The following sessions will focus on trial design, protocol development, and operational aspects.


The workshop aims to enhance participants’ understanding of clinical research methodologies and strengthen the overall research capacity in the North Eastern region under the MRU-MRHRU scheme.
