Around 30 Students Hospitalized in Ukhrul After Consuming “Mauli” Snack
In a distressing incident, about 30 students from KTL Excel Higher Secondary School were rushed to Ukhrul District Hospital on Thursday evening after consuming a snack called “Mauli,” in what is suspected to be a case of food contamination.
According to Dr. Reisangmi Raikhan, Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Ukhrul, “the admitted patients complain of nausea, headache, uneasiness, dysentery, diarrhea and abdominal pain. They are undergoing medical treatment for further observation.”

The snack “MAULI” bears the FSSAI number 10324002000070 and is produced and packaged by Global Tradelink Private Limited, located at Brahmaputra Industrial Park, Gauripur Amigaon, District Kamrup, Guwahati-781030. The label on the packet lists the ingredients as maize bread, salt, and spices, among others.
Inspector W. Marchang, Officer-in-Charge of Ukhrul Police Station, stated that a written complaint was filed by Donald Kashung, a local vendor who sells snacks primarily to students near KTL Excel Higher Secondary School. Based on the complaint, police have launched an enquiry into the incident.
In his report, Donald Kashung wrote, “I wish to report an unfortunate incident concerning suspected food contamination that occurred on 06/11/2025. I wish to state that I had purchased the said eatables from a retailer shop named ‘Variety Dukan,’ located at Viewland Bazar, Ukhrul, on 05/11/2025. I was unaware of any possible contamination or defect in the product. I am deeply concerned about the wellbeing of the students and other children who may be at risk if the same items are being sold elsewhere.”

He further appealed for a thorough investigation to identify the source of contamination, alert other vendors who might have purchased the same product, and take preventive measures to halt further sale of the suspected snack. He also urged authorities to take appropriate action against the responsible supplier, distributor, or manufacturer if found culpable.
