Oriental College Imphal Marks 150 Years of Vande Mataram with Patriotic Celebration

Oriental College (Autonomous), Takyel, Imphal, joined the nationwide celebration commemorating 150 years of India’s national song Vande Mataram with a grand event held at the college’s Conference Hall. The programme, organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), began at 9:15 a.m. and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff.

The event was graced by Shri Sapam Kunjakeswor Singh, Hon’ble MLA of Patsoi A/C, as Chief Guest. Dr. S. Ranjit Singh, Principal of Oriental College, presided over the function, while M. Lokendro Singh, Head of the Department of Chemistry, attended as Guest of Honour.

In his address, the Chief Guest invoked the spirit of Vande Mataram, urging all to uphold the values of nationalism, unity, and integrity. Principal Dr. S. Ranjit Singh highlighted the timeless message of patriotism embodied in Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s verses, while M. Lokendro Singh reflected on the song’s historical significance during India’s freedom movement.

A major highlight of the celebration was the mass singing of Vande Mataram by all participants, synchronised with the nationwide televised broadcast led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at 9:50 a.m.

Participants expressed heartfelt appreciation for the event, describing it as an inspiring reminder of India’s national values and the collective spirit that binds the nation. The programme concluded with a discussion on the cultural and historical importance of Vande Mataram, followed by words of gratitude from the Principal.
