AMWJU, EGM Condemn Attempted Abduction of Naharolgi Thoudang Editor
The All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and the Editors’ Guild Manipur (EGM) have strongly condemned the reported attempted abduction of Naharolgi Thoudang Editor Khoirom Loyalakpa by unidentified armed persons near Mantripukhri.
In a joint statement issued today, both media bodies termed the incident a “direct assault on the freedom of the press” and a “grave threat to the safety and security of journalists” discharging their professional duties. They asserted that intimidation or violence against media persons is unacceptable in a democratic society and must not be tolerated under any circumstance.
AMWJU and EGM have urged the Manipur Police and relevant authorities to swiftly investigate the case, identify those responsible, and take prompt legal action to bring the culprits to justice.
They further appealed to all sections of society to refrain from using violence or coercion to resolve disputes with journalists or media organisations, emphasizing that differences must be settled through dialogue and democratic means.
Highlighting the importance of press freedom, both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and peace in society. They expressed solidarity with all media professionals working under challenging circumstances in Manipur.
