Shangkai Youth Club Clarifies: Clash with Visiting Bikers Near Ukhrul’s Litan Not Communal, Says President Hegin Haokip
The President of Shangkai Youth Club, Hegin Haokip, has clarified the circumstances surrounding the reported mob attack on a group of youths at Shangkai village near Litan in Ukhrul district, asserting that the incident was not communal in nature but stemmed from a misunderstanding and unruly behaviour.
Speaking to Ichel News Network, Haokip stated that a group of around 32 youths on motorcycles entered Sangkai village late in the evening and stayed for more than an hour and a half, causing loud noise and disturbance. When village elders advised them to leave quietly, the riders allegedly responded in a rude and challenging manner.
Volunteers of the Shangkai Youth Club also requested the bikers to leave, but the group reportedly began revving their motorcycles aggressively instead. As villagers attempted to stop them by blocking the road, one of the riders allegedly hit a member of the village authority, identified as Haopu Kuki, 26. The injured man was immediately taken to Saikul PHC and later referred to Senapati Getwell Hospital for further treatment.

Haokip said that following the incident, more villagers gathered at the spot, but the situation was brought under control after the intervention of Ukhrul Litan Police. Both sides were later called to the police station, where the matter was reportedly resolved.
The Shangkai Youth Club president reiterated that the clash was not motivated by any communal tension but resulted from the reckless and provocative actions of the visiting riders.
