RIMS Observes World Diabetes Day, Provides Free Screening to 156 Patients
The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, marked World Diabetes Day 2025 with a special health awareness programme held at the New General OPD Block today.
The event began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, officially launching the day’s activities. This year’s theme, “Diabetes and the Workplace,” highlighted the growing burden of diabetes among working populations.

As part of the observance, RIMS offered free medical consultations, diabetes screening, and diagnostic tests, including KFT, LFT, Lipid Profile, and HbA1C. IEC materials such as diet charts were also distributed, alongside interactive counselling sessions on diabetes prevention, management, and lifestyle modification. A total of 156 patients attended and benefitted from the services.
Addressing the gathering, the Director stressed the importance of early detection and public awareness, noting that diabetes has become a major health challenge globally, affecting nearly 11% of the world’s population and impacting society and the economy beyond the medical sector.
The programme was attended by the Principal of the Dental College, Dean (Academics), HoDs, faculty, staff, and students of RIMS.
