National Press Day 2025 Observed in Manipur; 7 Journalists Felicitated

The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur, today observed National Press Day 2025 at the DIPR Auditorium, highlighting this year’s theme, “Safeguarding Press Credibility Amidst Rising Misinformation.”

Shri Hungyo Worshang, IAS, Secretary (IPR), attended as Chief Guest, with Shri Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director (IPR), as President and senior journalist Shri Pradip Phanjoubam as Guest of Honour.

Addressing the gathering, Secretary Hungyo Worshang stressed the increasing challenges posed by misinformation, pressures from various groups and the need for the media to uphold truth and credibility. He noted that rapid technological and AI-driven changes demand stronger journalistic integrity and more objective reporting.

Director Ng. Uttam highlighted the growing influence of misinformation and cautioned against the rush to publish unverified news. He urged journalists to prioritise accuracy over speed and to use AI responsibly to counter fake news.

Guest of Honour Pradip Phanjoubam emphasised adapting to evolving media technologies to remain relevant.

As part of the observance, seven journalists from various media organisations were honoured with the Manipur State Journalist Awards 2025 across categories including Science & Technology, Parliamentary Reporting, Women & Children, Arts & Culture, Sports, Public Health & Hygiene and the Best Editor Award for National Integration & Communal Harmony.

A workshop on the theme followed, moderated by Shri Pradip Phanjoubam, with sessions led by senior journalists Shri K. Sarojkumar Sharma and Shri Rupachandra Yumnam.
