MSCW Organises Awareness Programme on Legal Rights of Women in Imphal
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in association with Dimdailong Women Society, organised a one-day awareness programme on “Legal Rights of Women” at the Dimdailong Community Hall, New Checkon, on Tuesday.
The programme was aimed at educating women about their legal rights and entitlements and encouraging them to seek institutional support when faced with injustice.


Speaking on the occasion, Smt W. Phajatombi Devi, MCS, Member Secretary, MSCW and Additional Director (IPR), Manipur, stressed the importance of awareness initiatives to empower women with knowledge of their rights. She said informed and confident women are key to building an equitable and empowered society
Former Secretary of Dimdailong Women Society, G. Thiampuina, alias Ruby, observed that women from minority communities often hesitate to report crimes due to fear, shame and social stigma. She highlighted the role of MSCW in addressing grievances related to domestic violence and other forms of injustice and urged women to approach the Commission for support and guidance.


Addressing the gathering, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Chairperson, MSCW, called upon women to remain aware of their legal rights while acknowledging their resilience and spirit of sacrifice. She reaffirmed MSCW’s commitment to the welfare and empowerment of women across Manipur and appealed to the public to work collectively for a progressive and harmonious society that upholds women’s rights.
During the technical session, Kh. Lucy Jacky, Deputy Chief, Legal Aid Defence Counsel, spoke on “Rights of Women,” while T. Chuongsin Koireng, former member of MSCW, delivered a talk on “Know Your Rights.”
The programme was attended by SK Sophia Moyon, Member, MSCW; Romy, President, Dimdailong Women Society; Gaisinglung Kamei, Reverend Pastor, Dimdailong Baptist Church, along with women from Dimdailong and nearby localities.
