INDIA Bloc, Manipur, Stages Sit-in-Demonstration at Jantar Mantar Demanding Immediate Restoration of Peace in Manipur

The INDIA Bloc, Manipur, led a Sit-in-Demonstration today at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, calling for urgent intervention to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur, a state reeling under turmoil for the past 19 months. The demonstration was organized under the leadership of Shri K. Meghachandra Singh, MLA and President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, along with Convener Shri Kshetrimayum Santa.

The protest highlighted the dire situation in Manipur, characterized by prolonged curfews, an internet ban, skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, severe shortages of medicines, continued violence, highway blockades, rising extortion, and lawlessness. Educational institutions have been paralyzed, and the people are grappling with a complete violation of fundamental rights, including the Right to Life and Property.

In a formal memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the President of India, the INDIA Bloc, Manipur, pressed for the following demands:
1. Urgent Visit by the Prime Minister: The bloc urged Prime Minister Modi to visit Manipur and ensure the restoration of peace without compromising the state’s territorial integrity.
2. Accountability of the Prime Minister: The memorandum held the Prime Minister accountable for the ongoing unrest and violence in Manipur.
3. Resignation of the Union Home Minister: The bloc demanded the immediate resignation of the Union Home Minister on moral grounds, citing his inability to handle the crisis effectively.
4. Dismissal of the Chief Minister of Manipur: The bloc called for the sacking of the Chief Minister for his failure to restore normalcy in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Shri K. Meghachandra Singh emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “Manipur has been burning for far too long. The continuous violence and lawlessness have crippled the state. The central and state leadership must act immediately to restore hope and peace.”

The INDIA Bloc, Manipur, vowed to continue its democratic struggle for peace and unity in the state. It reaffirmed its commitment to fostering harmony across all communities and maintaining Manipur’s territorial integrity.

The protest served as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges in Manipur and the urgent need for a resolution to ensure stability, security, and progress in the region.
