ASIMANICON 2025 Inaugurated at RIMS, Imphal — Surgeons Discuss Innovations and Challenges in Advancing Surgical Frontiers

The XXVII Annual Conference of the Association of Surgeons of India, Manipur State Chapter (ASIMANICON 2025), was inaugurated today at the Jubilee Hall, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, under the theme “Advancing Surgical Frontiers: Innovations and Challenges.”

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh, Director of Manipur Health Services, as Chief Guest, with Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, and Prof. Madhumita Mukhopadhyay, Honorary Treasurer of ASI Headquarters, as Guests of Honour. Prof. N. Somorjit, President of ASI Manipur State Chapter, presided over the function.

A souvenir was released during the ceremony, and senior surgeons, along with past Chairmen and Secretaries of ASI, Manipur State Chapter, were felicitated for their contributions. The event was also attended by Dr. Th. Gojendra Singh, Organising Chairman; Dr. Dhanabir Thangjam, Honorary Secretary; and Dr. Keisham Lokendro Singh, Organising Secretary of ASIMANICON 2025.

In his address, Dr. N. Hemantakumar Singh highlighted the transformative role of robotic surgery, artificial intelligence, and precision medicine in improving healthcare outcomes and accessibility. He noted that under the SPOC-Hub telemedicine model, 10-bed ICUs established across 60 districts in Manipur have successfully treated over 7,000 critically ill patients, significantly reducing the burden on tertiary care hospitals. He emphasized the need for equitable access, trust-building, quality care, and early diagnosis through initiatives like the Ayushman Arogya Mandir.

Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS, stated that ASIMANICON 2025 reflects Manipur’s progress in surgical innovation while addressing ethical, educational, and infrastructural challenges in Northeast India. He said that RIMS stands as a symbol of regional excellence meeting global standards and urged young surgeons to use the conference as an inspiration to shape the future of surgery in India.

As part of the conference, the Department of Sports Medicine, RIMS, organized a hands-on workshop on “Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Sports Injuries: Diagnostic & Interventional Applications” at the Operation Theatre Complex. The session was graced by Prof. G. Sunil Kumar Sharma and featured Dr. Sreejith K., Professor and Head, Department of PMR, GMC Kottayam, as the guest expert. Dr. Sreejith delivered a detailed lecture and practical demonstration on musculoskeletal ultrasound techniques. Experts participating in the workshop were also felicitated with certificates and gifts.

The conference marks a key academic event bringing together surgeons, researchers, and medical professionals to exchange knowledge and explore the latest innovations shaping the future of surgical care in the region.
