Young Readers Showcase Skills at Kakching Reading Mela
A District Level Reading Mela 2024–25 was held today at Kakching Higher Secondary School under the supervision of the District Administration, Kakching. The event was organised by the Zonal Education Office, Kakching, under the Samagra Shiksha Manipur programme.
Around 60 students from Classes I and II participated in the Reading Mela, which aims to promote foundational literacy and foster a love for reading among young learners in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The programme was graced by Shri Mayanglambam Rakhesh Singh (MES), Zonal Education Officer, Kakching; Smt. Naorem Nomita Devi, Principal of Kakching Higher Secondary School; Smt. Kh. Binodini (MES), D.I. of Schools, ZEO Kakching; and Shri Y. Lokendro Singh (MES), A.I. of Schools, ZEO Kakching.


Addressing the gathering, Shri Mayanglambam Rakhesh emphasized that under the NEP 2020 framework, students must develop the ability to read, write, and comprehend effectively. He stated that such initiatives are vital for achieving foundational learning goals and announced that similar activities will be extended to higher classes. He also urged teachers and parents to provide full cooperation in nurturing reading habits among children.
In the Class I category, Amom Nongdren of Wangoo Laipham Upper Primary School won the first position, while Th. Linthoingamba of Elangkhangpokpi Junior High School and Th. Biju of Langmeidong Primary School secured the second and third positions respectively.



In the Class II category, Reihan of Hangoon Primary Madrasa clinched the first position, followed by O. Lanchenbi of Langmeidong Primary School and N. Linthoi of Kakching Makha High School, who bagged the second and third positions respectively.
The winners were awarded certificates, mementoes, and cash prizes, and will go on to represent the district at the State Level Reading Mela.
