UMPC Manipur Marks Human Rights Day Amid Calls for Peace in Conflict-Hit Region

The United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC) Manipur observed International Human Rights Day with a strong call for peace and justice in the region. Held under the theme “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now”, the event brought together leaders and activists to address the human rights crisis unfolding in Manipur.

In his address, UMPC President Alhaj Moulana Muheiyuddin underscored the urgent need for collective action to restore dignity and justice for all communities. “The protection of universal rights is paramount, especially during times of conflict,” he said.

Legal expert Advocate Zakir Hussain provided a sobering analysis of the current situation, highlighting the critical need to safeguard human rights amid ongoing tensions. He urged all stakeholders to work towards a resolution that ensures safety and equality for everyone.

Religious leader Alhaj Qa’ari Qayamuddin called for unity and dialogue among diverse communities, emphasizing mutual respect as the cornerstone for rebuilding peace.

The event, held at Jama Masjid in Lilong Bazar, served as a platform to reaffirm the importance of human rights in building a peaceful and just future. It comes as Manipur continues to grapple with tensions affecting the lives of many in the region.

UMPC officials said the observance reflects a broader commitment to advocating for rights, justice, and reconciliation across communities in the conflict-stricken state.
