Hill Tribal Council Directs Schools in Moreh to Drop Meitei Mayek Subject.

The Hill Tribal Council (HTC) has directed all schools in Moreh to remove the Manipuri/Meitei Mayek subject from their curriculum starting from this academic year 2025-26 in a notification dated Jan 16, 2025.

The HTC stated that the move aims to promote productive subjects and to respect the sentiments of the Kuki-Zo community amid the current political tensions. Schools have been instructed to replace the subject with Hindi, English or other regional languages like Mizo, Thadou, Hmar, Zou, Maring, Anal, Vaiphei, Paite, Gangte or any other MIL subjects instead.

The notification warned that non-compliance with the order may invite penalties.
