Large Cache of Weapons and Ammunition Surrendered Across Multiple Districts in Manipur
In a significant development, a total of 87 different types of weapons, along with various ammunitions, explosives, and other military-grade equipment, were voluntarily surrendered by the public across multiple districts of Manipur on February 25, 2025. The surrendered arms included sophisticated firearms such as Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), INSAS Light Machine Guns (LMGs), AK-47 rifles, sniper rifles, submachine guns, and various country-made weapons. The surrender took place in key locations across Churachandpur, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Jiribam, and Imphal West districts.
In Churachandpur district, weapons such as SLRs, .303 rifles, an INSAS LMG, a Pakistan-made M-79 40 mm Lathode UBGL gun, and several locally made mortars and rockets were submitted to the police. Imphal East witnessed the surrender of pistols, stun grenades, tear gas shells, and hand grenades at Porompat and Sagolmang police stations. At Yaingangpokpi Police Station, security forces received submachine guns, riot guns, BP jackets, and anti-riot grenades.
Bishnupur district saw multiple surrenders at different locations, including Nambol, Moirang, Phougakchao Ikhai, and Bishnupur Police Stations, where a variety of firearms, grenades, tear gas shells, and bulletproof vests were handed over. At Thoubal district’s SP Office, three sniper rifles, an 81mm mortar, a revolver, and a substantial quantity of ammunition were deposited. In Kangpokpi district, weapons such as AK-47 rifles, revolvers, mortars, and tube launchers were turned in at New Keithelmanbi Police Station.
Similarly, in Jiribam district, law enforcement agencies received several shotguns, an anti-riot gas gun, and hundreds of rounds of live ammunition, bulletproof jackets, and helmets. Imphal West Police and Assam Rifles also secured a significant number of surrendered weapons, including IEDs, rifles, and ammunition.
The voluntary surrender of such a large cache of weapons marks a crucial step towards restoring peace and normalcy in the region.
