2-Day National Seminar on Folk Narratives Concludes Successfully in Imphal
Imphal, March 24, 2025: The 2-Day National Seminar on “Contribution of Folk Narratives on North East Indian Culture, Tradition & Literature” concluded with remarkable success on March 23 at Oriental College (Autonomous), Imphal. The seminar was organised by the All Manipur College Teachers’ Association (AMCTA) in association with Oriental College and brought together over 200 delegates, including teachers and research scholars from across Manipur and Assam.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Prof. H. Behari Singh, Former Convener of the Manipuri Language Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, as the Chief Guest. Shri M. Lokendro Singh, President of AMCTA, presided over the event. Other dignitaries included Dr S. Ranjit Singh, Principal of Oriental College, and Dr E. Iboyaima Singh, Former General Secretary of AMCTA, along with Dr Th. Nabachandra Singh (Convener) and Dr M. Imocha Singh (Organising Secretary), who also presented the seminar’s introductory notes.
Key highlights included an insightful talk by Prof. Dependu Das from the Department of English, Assam University, Silchar, on “Restorying Folk Narrative, Reinventing Tradition: Adaptation of a Rain Tale in Select Fiction from India’s Northeast.” The sessions were moderated by renowned academicians including Prof. H. Nani Kumar Singha, Dr M. Mangi Singh, and Dr L. Mahendra Singh.
Across four technical sessions, 20 papers were presented and critically discussed, offering diverse perspectives on the role of folk narratives in shaping the region’s rich cultural and literary heritage.
