One-Day Media Sensitization Workshop on ‘My Waste, My Responsibility’ Held at Manipur University
Imphal, 27 March 2025: A one-day Media Sensitization Workshop on the theme ‘My Waste, My Responsibility’ was organized today at the Committee Room of Manipur University. The event was jointly hosted by the College Development Council, Manipur University, and the MAHUD Department, Government of Manipur.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof. Naorem Lokendra Singh, graced the workshop as Chief Guest. In his address, he noted the significant improvement in sanitation conditions across India, attributing the progress to the Swachh Bharat Mission. He emphasized that although initiatives are being implemented in Manipur through various centrally sponsored schemes, the desired level of cleanliness is yet to be achieved. He also advocated for the inclusion of hygiene and sanitation topics in the academic syllabus to promote lasting behavioral change.
Shri Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations and MAHUD Department, presided over the function. He acknowledged the demanding nature of media work and proposed conducting such workshops in series rather than day-long events. Highlighting the high costs associated with solid waste management, he stressed the need for collective effort and public awareness to reduce waste generation and enhance segregation practices at the household level. He also pointed out that improper use of dustbins often leads to more scattered garbage, urging people to embrace the principles of “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.”
Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, Director of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Manipur, attended the workshop as Guest of Honour.
The event witnessed active participation from scholars, faculty members, students of Manipur University, and media professionals from various outlets. It concluded with a productive interaction session between media personnel and environmental experts.
