Awareness Programme on Women and Law Organized in Imphal
Imphal, March 28, 2025: A One Day Awareness Programme on “Women and Law” was held today at Uttarayan Theatre, Khurai Sajor Leikai, Imphal East. The event was organized by the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) in collaboration with ITA Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. to educate women about their legal rights and empower them with constitutional knowledge.
Addressing the gathering, MSCW Chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang emphasized the importance of women being well-informed about their legal rights. She stated that gender equality is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations Organization (UNO), and achieving this goal requires women to be educated and empowered. She urged participants to utilize the awareness program to understand legal provisions, particularly those related to domestic violence and crimes against women.
The event featured a Technical Session, where legal experts Shri Soibam Nongpoknganba Meitei and Shri Th. Rajkishore delivered insightful discussions on “Criminal Law and Women” and “Procedural Guidelines for Enforcement of Women’s Legal Rights.”
The program was also attended by MSCW member SK. Sophia Moyon, Chairperson (Administrative Committee) of Laishram Leikai Gram Panchayat Shri Thongam Leishemba, and ITA Women Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. Secretary L. Bidyalaxmi as presidium members. Participants included members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), local women, and representatives from Laishram Leikai Gram Panchayat.
The awareness programme aimed to create a stronger, legally aware society where women can assert their rights and seek justice without fear.
