Manipur Police Seize Large Quantity of Suspected Brown Sugar in Two Separate Operations; Four Arrested

Manipur Police continue their intensive crackdown on drug trafficking networks across the state, resulting in two major arrests and significant seizures in Churachandpur and Thoubal districts on April 28 and 29, 2025.

On April 29, two individuals were apprehended from Valveng area under Churachandpur Police Station. The arrested persons have been identified as:

  • 1. Ciinkhanlun (29), resident of Vengnuam, Churachandpur
  • 2. Vungtansang Munluo (36), resident of Suangdoh, Singngat Sub-Division, Churachandpur District

From their possession, the police recovered:

  1. 331 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar
  2. 2 mobile phones
  3. 1 pickup vehicle (four-wheeler)

The operation marks one of the largest seizures of suspected brown sugar in recent months in the district.

In a separate operation on April 28, police arrested two more individuals from Khangabok Khunou Leikai under Thoubal Police Station, Thoubal District. The arrested persons are:

  • 1. Md. Wakash (26), resident of Thoubal District
  • 2. Md. Yarish (21), resident of Thoubal District

The seizure made during the operation includes:

  • 03 soap cases containing approximately 30 grams of brown sugar
  • 01 two-wheeler
  • 03 mobile phones

Both operations were based on specific intelligence inputs and are part of the ongoing efforts by Manipur Police to dismantle illegal drug networks operating within and across state borders.

Authorities have confirmed that legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act have been initiated against the arrested individuals. Further investigations are underway to trace the source and distribution network of the seized substances.
