Indian Army and Assam Rifles Rescue Over 800 Civilians in Manipur Floods Under Operation Jal Rahat-2
Imphal, 31st May 2025 : Indian Army and Assam Rifles Rescue Over 800 People in Manipur
In response to severe flooding in Manipur, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles launched Operation Jal Rahat-2 following requests for assistance from the Deputy Commissioner.
Troops were deployed to flood-hit areas including Porompat, Wankhei, Sanjenthong, Palace Compound, New Checkon, Khurai Heikrumakhong Heinang, Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei Angom Leikai, and Nongmeibung Raj Bari in Imphal East and West districts.
Two primary rescue columns were activated:
The first, operating from Singjamei, rescued 193 individuals in Wangkhei Khunou, including 85 women and 44 children.
The second column in Heikrumakhong rescued 182 individuals, including 90 women and 57 children.
At other locations in Imphal East and West, 408 additional people were rescued, including 179 women and 92 children.
The total number of people rescued reached approximately 800, including 10 to 20 differently abled and elderly individuals. All rescued persons were relocated to higher and safer areas. Assam Rifles provided drinking water, food packets, and immediate medical assistance on-site.
A distress call from Khurai regarding missing children was promptly addressed. The children were found and rescued the same afternoon.
Additionally, in the early hours, the Assam Rifles evacuated the All India Radio (AIR) office in Imphal after receiving a request from the AIR Director. The building had been flooded, and essential staff and equipment were relocated safely.
Rescue operations were carried out under challenging conditions with multiple rescue columns using buoyant boats. The situation is reported to be under control, and Assam Rifles continues to support the civilian population.
