Mayang Imphal Tension Defused, Dialogue with local Leaders Underway

Tension broke out in Mayang Imphal today following allegations by a mob that three boys passed slang comments at women during a Lai Lam Thokpa event held at Tomchou Higher Secondary School ground.

The accused, three boys from Kiyamgei — two Pangal and one Meitei — were accused by the crowd of making inappropriate remarks. The crowd surrounded the boys, prompting police to intervene. The trio was rescued by the police and taken to the police station for further verification.

Shortly after, the mob stormed the police station, demanding that the boys be handed over. To control the situation, the police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.

The situation has since been brought under control, and the area is currently calm. Police is yet to be confirmed whether any slang comments were actually made. An investigation is underway to verify the facts.

Discussions with local leaders are also being planned to defuse tensions and maintain peace in the area.
