Cyclothon Promoting ‘Human–Animal Coexistence’ Organised by Central Forest Division as Part of 71st Wildlife Week Celebration
As part of the ongoing 71st Wildlife Week Celebration, the Central Forest Division, Forest Department, Government of Manipur, successfully organised a Cyclothon/Cycle Rally.The event was conceptualised and conducted under the overarching theme of “Human–Animal Coexistence,” symbolising the shared relationship between people and nature, and highlighting the importance of wildlife protection and sustainable lifestyles.

The Cyclothon was flagged off by Shri Anurag Bajpai, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Additional Chief Secretary (TCI/Transport), who graced the function as the Chief Guest. The rally began from the Forest Office Complex, Mantripukhri, and concluded at the Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba, traversing through key city landmarks such as Mantripukhri Road, BOC, Hatta Minuthong, Palace Gate, Governor House, Kangla Gate, and B.T. Flyover before reaching its destination.

The rally aimed to spread the message of environmental consciousness, ecological balance, and harmonious coexistence with wildlife. Along the route, the cyclists drew enthusiastic cheers from onlookers and commuters, creating a lively atmosphere and successfully drawing public attention to the cause of wildlife protection and green mobility.
Participation and Response
The event witnessed an overwhelming response with more than 150 cyclists from various organisations and clubs actively taking part. Prominent among them were the Manipur Adventure and Mountain Biking Association (MAAMBA), Manipur Royal Humber Cycling Club, and Cycle Squad, along with several individual cyclists and youth volunteers. The participants, donned in thematic T-shirts and carrying placards with conservation messages, showcased their commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices and wildlife preservation.

The Cyclothon served as a vibrant reminder that small lifestyle changes, such as cycling instead of using motor vehicles, can significantly reduce carbon emissions, contribute to cleaner air, and help safeguard the natural habitats upon which both humans and wildlife depend.
Dignitaries and Officials Present
The programme was graced by the presence of several senior forest officials and dignitaries. The Chief Guest, Shri Anurag Bajpai, IFS, PCCF & HoFF, ACS (TCI/Transport), in his address, lauded the efforts of the Central Forest Division for organising such an impactful awareness event. He emphasised that wildlife conservation is not merely the responsibility of forest officials but a collective duty of every citizen, and that sensitising youth through such initiatives is crucial to shaping a sustainable future.

Significance of the Event
The Cyclothon aligns with the Government’s broader initiatives to promote environmental sustainability, reduction of vehicular pollution, and awareness on wildlife protection. It also reinforces the message that conservation can be achieved through community engagement, youth participation, and collective commitment to a greener and more harmonious coexistence.
At the concluding ceremony held at Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba, participants were felicitated for their contribution and enthusiasm. Shri RK Amarjit, IFS, Conservator of Forests, Central Circle, and Special Secretary, Environment & Climate Change, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all participants, officers, and supporting staff for their active involvement and commitment to the cause of wildlife conservation.
The event culminated with renewed pledges to conserve nature, protect wildlife habitats, and continue the legacy of responsible environmental stewardship in the State. The “Pedal for the Planet, Protect the Wildlife” Cyclothon stood as a symbol of unity, awareness, and action — inspiring every participant and spectator to reaffirm their role in nurturing a planet where both humans and animals can thrive together in balance and peace.
