High-Level Panel Formed to Oversee Restoration of Historic Manipur Rajbari in Shillong

In a significant move to preserve and revive Manipur’s rich cultural heritage, the Government of Manipur has constituted a Monitoring and Supervision Committee for the reconstruction and restoration of the historic Manipur Rajbari (Red Land) Building at Shillong.

According to an official order issued by the Secretariat of the MAHUD Department, the committee will be responsible for monitoring, overseeing coordination with stakeholders, ensuring quality and heritage compliance, and facilitating timely execution of the project.

The committee will be chaired by Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director (MAHUD), with Sunanda Thokchom, Deputy Secretary (Art & Culture), serving as Member Secretary. Other members include Clara Koshoni Phimu, Deputy Secretary (GAD); K. Shahikanta Sharma, Superintendent (Archaeology); and Ngangom Dilip Meitei, Executive Engineer-I, PDA.

The government emphasized that the committee will function as per the Terms of Reference enclosed in the official annexure to ensure the historic site’s architectural and cultural authenticity is preserved during the restoration.

The Rajbari, deeply intertwined with Manipur’s royal and cultural history, stands as a landmark of Manipuri identity in Shillong. The new committee marks a crucial step toward bringing the heritage complex back to its former glory.
