District Magistrate Bishnupur Imposes Ban on Sale and Use of Firecrackers Ahead of Diwali
The District Magistrate of Bishnupur, Smt. Pooja Elangbam, has issued an order prohibiting the sale and use of firecrackers across Bishnupur district ahead of the Diwali festival. The order, issued under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023, aims to prevent any possible breach of peace and public tranquility during the festive period.
The directive cites apprehensions of misuse of crackers and fireworks by vested interests that could cause annoyance, panic, or injury to persons and property. It further notes that allowing the sale and use of such items could disturb public peace and endanger safety.
Under the order, no person or entity is permitted to engage in the sale, possession, or use of crackers and fireworks without valid authorization. Violators will face strict action under relevant provisions of the Explosives Act, 1884 and other applicable laws.
The Superintendent of Police, Bishnupur, has been instructed to enforce the order strictly and take necessary measures to prevent violations. The ban will remain in force throughout the Bishnupur district until further notice.
