21 Volunteers Pledge Organs at RIMS on Birthday of Donor Advocate

A special organ donation pledge ceremony was held today at the Nursing Office of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, marking the birthday of Ms. Bheimisda Rajkumari of Lairik Yengbam Makha Leikai. The programme was jointly coordinated by the Rajkumari family and Life Savers Manipur.

A total of 21 volunteers pledged for deceased organ donation, including members of Life Savers Manipur, RIMS Help Desk staff, two RIMS staff, and friends and family of Ms. Rajkumari. Both men and women participated, reaffirming their support for the cause.

Speaking at the event, Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital, described organ donation as one of the noblest humanitarian acts, second only to blood donation. He appreciated the Rajkumari family for transforming a personal celebration into a meaningful social initiative and lauded Life Savers Manipur for their continued awareness efforts. He also addressed common misconceptions, clarifying that donated organs are not meant only for study but can save or improve many lives.

An awareness session was conducted by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Transplant Coordinator, RIMS, while Ms. Chongtham Pritam, Transplant Coordinator (MSW), hosted the ceremony. Prof. N. Sanjib Singh handed over Organ Donation Pledge Certificates to all participants and felicitated them for their contribution.

The programme was attended by MS Office staff, members of the Life Savers Community, MOHAN Foundation, and friends and relatives of Ms. Bheimisda Rajkumari, collectively promoting the message of organ donation as a selfless and life-saving act.
