INDEFINITE GENERAL STRIKE HITS YAIRIPOK BAZAR OVER EXCESSIVE MONETARY DEMANDS
The Yairipok Shop Owners’ Welfare Association called an indefinite general strike at Yairipok Bazar today in response to what the association described as “exorbitant” monetary demands made by various organisations. This action follows their prior appeal to halt such demands by 5 a.m. today.
The association had initially issued its appeal on the 10th of this month through press and media channels. As a result, shops and market stalls in the vicinity of Yairipok Bazar remained closed. Supporters of the strike were seen stopping vehicles and individuals attempting to pass through the area.
The association’s secretary, Kh. Surat, clarified, “This strike is not directed against any particular organisation. However, with the ongoing crisis in Manipur, we urge organisations to consider the struggles of the people and stop making excessive monetary demands. We also call upon the government to take steps to regulate such actions.”
He added, “We have extended support to several organisations and have contributed to their demands even in this difficult situation. However, the relentless monetary demands have left us with no alternative but to take this step.”
The strike has caused significant disruption to daily activities, with its duration remaining uncertain as the association stands firm on its demands.
