Seven Arrested in Phayeng Bazar for Illicit Liquor Manufacturing; Large Quantities of Equipment Seized
Manipur Police arrested seven individuals on 20 November 2025 for allegedly running an illicit liquor manufacturing operation at Phayeng Bazar in Imphal West district.
The arrested persons have been identified as:
- Chingakham Bihari of Kadamtala, Dibong, Jiribam district
- Madhav Lahon of Borbali Gaon, Dibrugarh, Assam
- Chandan Lahon of Barbeel, Dibrugarh, Assam
- Bimal Neog of Gelua, Dhemaji, Assam
- Buddheswar Neog of Dibrugarh, Assam
- Hemanta Neog of Dhemaji, Assam
- Tilak Neog of Geluba, Dhemaji, Assam
Police seized a large quantity of materials used for illegal liquor production, including multiple 200-litre steel drums filled with alcohol-like liquid, bottling machines, pressure gauges, plastic drums containing alcohol-scented liquid, empty barrels and bottles, label stickers printed with “McDowell,” and bundles of small carton boxes printed with “Iconiq” and “McDowell.” Various chemicals and a packet of bottle covers with “McDowell” branding were also recovered.
A red mini-truck used for transporting the materials was impounded. Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
