Centre Sanctions Rs 777.61 Crore for Shangshak-Tengnoupal Road Upgrade in Manipur
Imphal: In a major boost to connectivity and infrastructure in Manipur, the Union Government has approved Rs 777.61 crore for the widening and upgrading of the Shangshak-Tengnoupal Road (Package-3) section of National Highway-102A.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the development on the social media platform X, stating, “In Manipur, we have sanctioned a budget of Rs 777.61 crore for the widening and improvement of the Shangshak-Tengnoupal Road (Package-3) section of National Highway-102A.”
The project, part of the Annual Plan for 2024-25, will convert the existing single-lane road into a two-lane configuration with a hard shoulder. Spanning 48 kilometers from Khonglo to Kasom-Khullen, the road connects the districts of Ukhrul and Kamjong, promising improved accessibility and efficiency.
The upgraded road is expected to enhance capacity, lower vehicle operating costs, and provide better travel services. Besides improving connectivity between the two districts, it aims to act as a catalyst for economic and social growth in the region, boosting local businesses and creating employment opportunities. Additionally, the project is anticipated to promote tourism in the region, further contributing to Manipur’s socio-economic development.
This announcement follows the Union Government’s recent approval of Rs 827.98 crore for a 4-lane highway project from Pandach to Manigam near Wayil Bridge in Jammu & Kashmir. The 12.11-kilometer project in J&K includes bridges, realignments, and a 2.55-kilometer elevated structure through Ganderbal Town, aimed at strengthening regional connectivity, security, and tourism.
Both initiatives underline the government’s focus on infrastructure development to drive economic growth and improve regional accessibility across the country.
