DC Bishnupur Launches Mobile Canteen Initiative at Kumbi

Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur, Smt. Pooja Elangbam today launched a Mobile Canteen Initiative run by Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for school students at New Model Public School, Kumbi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said the initiative is a commendable step that will provide IDPs with a sustainable source of income through the sale of food items in schools. She informed that the mobile canteen facility will be gradually extended to all schools across Bishnupur district, with the programme formally launched at Kumbi today.

Through the mobile canteen, students will have access to tasty and nutritious food items whenever the canteen is operational, thereby benefiting both students and IDPs. The canteen will function in schools two to three times a week, depending on the demand of the respective institutions, she added.

During the programme, Smt. Pooja Elangbam also interacted with the students and encouraged them to remain focused on their studies. She emphasized the importance of utilizing student life wisely, noting that dedication and determination are key to achieving success in life.

The launch event was attended by Shri Rohan Philem, Social Activist, along with officials and representatives from the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Bishnupur.

Later in the day, the Deputy Commissioner attended a Community Solidarity Event organized by Solidarity and Action Against The HIV Infection in India (SAATHI) and Empowering Trans Ability (ETA), supported by the American Jewish World Service, at Kiyamba Shanglen, Bishnupur. Addressing the gathering, she appreciated the efforts of SAATHI and ETA in empowering people affected by HIV and the transgender community, and assured full support from the District Administration, including assistance in identity cards, rights awareness, and welfare initiatives.
