Large Cache of Weapons and Ammunition Surrendered Across Five Districts in Manipur

Imphal, March 3, 2025 – In a significant development, a total of 33 different types of weapons, various ammunition, explosives, and other military-grade items were voluntarily surrendered by the public across Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West, and Bishnupur districts of Manipur today.

The arms and ammunition were deposited at various police stations and security establishments in the respective districts. The surrendered items included firearms such as rifles, pistols, carbines, grenades, stun shells, bulletproof gear, and explosives like drone bombs and mortar shells.

Breakdown of the Surrendered Weapons and Items

Churachandpur District

Weapons such as .303 rifles, SLR rifles, an M4A4 Carbine (property of the U.S. government), local-made firearms, and hand grenades were handed over at Churachandpur Police Station. A total of three walkie-talkie sets, nine .303 live rounds, and four magazine pouches were also surrendered.

Thoubal District

At 3rd IRB Khangabok and SP Thoubal, a wide range of arms including 9mm pistols (Italy-made and locally made), INSAS magazines, hand grenades, a live drone bomb, and a tube launcher were surrendered. Additionally, riot control gear such as stun grenades, tear smoke grenades, BP jackets, and helmets were also among the seized items.

Imphal East District

Weapons like 9mm pistols, No.36 hand grenades, mortar bombs (81mm), and an SLR rifle were turned in at Heingang, Yaingangpokpi, and Porompat police stations. A total of ten 7.62mm live rounds and several BP jackets were also handed over.

Imphal West District

The surrender at Lamphel Police Station included .303 rifles, country-made .32 pistols, a 36 H/E grenade, and several ammunition rounds.

Bishnupur District

At Nambol Police Station, a variety of weapons and protective gear were surrendered, including SBBL and DBBL guns, 30 cartridges, 12 BP jackets, 18 BP plates, and 50 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition.

Authorities Welcome the Surrender, Call for More Participation

Authorities have welcomed the voluntary surrender of arms, considering it a crucial step towards restoring peace and stability in the region. Security forces and local administration have urged others in possession of illegal weapons to come forward and surrender them without fear of legal repercussions.
