Lightning Strike Plunges Usoipokpi into Darkness; Major Power Outage Expected
A powerful thunderstorm and a direct lightning strike have crippled the 33/11kV Usoipokpi Sub-Station, leaving residents facing a multi-day power outage. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of March 2, severely damaged a crucial 3.15 MVA power transformer, according to the Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL).
In a press note issued today, MSPCL confirmed the extent of the damage and assured the public that restoration efforts are underway. “Our technical team is actively working to resolve the issue at the earliest,” stated Dr. S. Sanajaoba Singh, Deputy General Manager of the 400kV Sub-Station Division, MSPCL. However, given the severity of the damage, repairs or replacement are expected to take considerable time.
The sudden blackout has disrupted daily life, affecting households and businesses alike. MSPCL has expressed sincere regret for the inconvenience caused. Residents are advised to prepare for an extended period without power and to stay updated through official MSPCL announcements. The company has pledged to provide regular updates on the progress of repairs.
