Justice B.R. Gavai Inaugurates Legal and Health Services for Internally Displaced Persons in Churachandpur
Churachandpur, Manipur – March 22, 2025:
In a significant step towards ensuring inclusive justice and healthcare access, Justice B. R. Gavai inaugurated a Legal Services Camp, Health Camp, and Legal Aid Clinics in Churachandpur, Manipur. The initiative aims to empower vulnerable communities, especially Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), through accessible legal and health services.
Speaking at the inauguration, Justice Gavai emphasized the constitutional commitment to justice—social, economic, and political—for every citizen. “The Constitution aims for all the citizens in the country to have access to justice in a speedier manner and at affordable rates,” he said. He noted that efforts are being made to reach remote regions far from state capitals, reflecting the vision of an inclusive and just society.
Highlighting the plight of IDPs, Justice Gavai said, “Due to various circumstances beyond their control, many individuals and families have found themselves uprooted from their homes. It is our moral and constitutional duty to ensure they are not left behind.” He stressed that access to justice, healthcare, and opportunities are essential for individuals to lead dignified lives.
Under the initiative, 265 Legal Aid Clinics have been set up across the state by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority. Special focus has been given to establishing clinics within displaced communities to provide free legal aid. These clinics will support IDPs with issues ranging from identity documentation and property rights to compensation claims.
Justice Gavai expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved in making the initiative possible and urged displaced individuals to take full advantage of the services. “The legal aid clinics will empower people to seek justice and protect their rights. We stand with them in their journey towards rebuilding their lives,” he added.
The legal services and health camp inaugurated today aim to bridge critical service gaps, delivering support to those most in need.
