Joint Security Forces Recover Large Cache of Arms and Ammunition in Manipur
Imphal, 26 March 2025:
In a major breakthrough, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, under the Spear Corps, conducted a series of coordinated joint operations across multiple districts of Manipur, leading to the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and war-like stores between March 22 and March 25, 2025.
The operations were launched based on specific intelligence inputs and executed in close coordination with the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The meticulously planned joint efforts covered the districts of Kakching, Imphal West, Imphal East, Senapati, and Bishnupur.
On 22 March, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police recovered one improvised mortar, a .303 rifle, a modified carbine machine gun, two single-barrel rifles, and ammunition in Moltinchan, Kakching district. On the same day, four bolt-action rifles were recovered from Henbung in Senapati district, while Sagolmang in Imphal East yielded two single-barrel rifles, two improvised mortars, and other war-like stores.
On 23 March, the Indian Army seized one INSAS rifle, a .303 rifle, and a Self Loading Rifle (SLR) from Phaikot in Senapati district. Assam Rifles also recovered a 2” mortar and a 0.32 mm pistol from Imphal East.
Continuing their operations on 24 March, Army troops recovered a 0.22 rifle, a 12 bore double-barrel rifle, four 51mm mortars, and a 9mm pistol in Imphal East. In Dumpi, Bishnupur district, another operation led to the recovery of an AK-47, a 12 bore rifle, a .303 rifle, a double-barrel rifle, a modified rifle, and two improvised mortars.
A total of 32 weapons along with various explosives and war-like equipment have been recovered so far. All recovered items have been handed over to the Manipur Police for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
The Ministry of Defence emphasized that such operations highlight the ongoing commitment of security forces towards restoring peace and stability in the region.
