"Dogs and Muslims Not Allowed" – Islamophobic Poster Found at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya
Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), Nadia, West Bengal: An Islamophobic and derogatory poster, bearing the message “Dogs and Muslims not allowed. All eyes on Pahalgam. Terrorism means Islam,” was discovered on the entrance notice board of the Faculty of Agriculture at BCKV, a renowned agricultural university in West Bengal. The identity of the person responsible for posting the notice remains unknown, as the poster was unsigned.
The offensive message is believed to be part of a larger Islamophobic campaign following a deadly militant attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 people, including Indian and foreign tourists. The Resistance Front (TRF), a militant group in Kashmir, claimed responsibility for the attack, further escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
The incident has sparked outrage within the BCKV community, with students, staff, and alumni condemning the hate-filled message. “This is really unfortunate and unacceptable,” said one alumnus, noting that the institution, known for its academic excellence, should not be the setting for such divisive actions. Calls for a thorough investigation are growing, as the university seeks to address the matter and prevent future incidents.
