Assam Rifles Hosts Two-Day NCB Capsule to Tackle Drug Trafficking in Manipur
Imphal, 17 May 2025 — In a significant move to counter the rising threat of narco-terrorism and drug trafficking in Manipur, the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) organized a two-day intensive training capsule on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act on 16 and 17 May 2025.
The training, conducted in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), featured expert sessions led by Mr. R. Sudhakar, IPS, Deputy Director General, NCB, Mr. P.R. Mishra, SC, Additional Director, NCB, and officers from the NCB Imphal unit.
Recognizing Manipur’s increasing vulnerability as a transit route for narcotics and arms, the workshop aimed to enhance the legal and operational expertise of Assam Rifles personnel. Key topics included the legal framework of the NDPS Act, penalties, search and seizure protocols, burden of proof, and judicial proceedings. The sessions also covered landmark judicial rulings and emphasized inter-agency collaboration and ethical enforcement practices.
The capsule concluded with a closing address by the Inspector General, Assam Rifles (South), who underscored the importance of legal and technological upskilling. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts, integration of forensic and digital tools, and unwavering adherence to legal procedures to effectively counter evolving trafficking networks.
This initiative reflects Assam Rifles’ continued commitment to restoring peace and upholding justice in the region.
